1 - Cooking cheats

Use your kettle to make cooking quicker and easier:
- boil the water in the kettle and pour it in a saucepan to cook rice or pasta
- have some boiling water available to add to your preparations

2 - Disinfecting

Boiled water is not sterilised water. However, if you want to disinfect clean glass jars before you make preserves or jams, rinse them with boiling water and turn them over on a clean cloth to dry.

3 - Easy cleaning

Boiling water is also very useful to melt greasy or sticky spots in the kitchen, then remove them with a simple wipe of the cloth.

4 -  How to iron like a pro

- Try ironing near an open window or other source of light and air.
- Before ironing, stretch and smooth out individual items.
- Reserve space near the ironing board for both unironed and finished items, so you don't waste time walking back and forth.
- When dry ironing, sort clothes according to temperature and work up from coolest to hottest (that way you prevent accidentally ironing at the wrong temperature). If temperature is critical, let the iron stand a few minutes after any temperature control adjustments.
- Fold clothes immediately after removing from the dryer.
- To avoid ironing creases in sleeves, use a sleeve board.
- If you're unsure about ironing a particular item, test a small, hidden corner of the fabric.
- When ironing a large item such as a sheet or tablecloth, set up chairs next to the ironing board and fold the piece onto the chairs as you work through it.
- For extra-sharp creases, use the steam boost feature.
- For "baggy" clothing, hold the iron an inch over the item and apply a steam boost.
- For best results, let freshly ironed items sit for a few hours before use.

5 - Label removal

Use the steam from a nearly boiling kettle to help remove sticky labels from new household purchases. Just hold in the steam for a few seconds and the label will peel off easily. Also, use steam to soften the traces of glue after a label has been removed.
